Beets by boat
For the past two years, we have been working on a modal shift: transporting beets by boat instead of truck. As part of this, we managed to replace no fewer than 15,000 trips by road with water-based transport during the 2021/2022 beet campaign. This translates into a savings of 130 truck trips per day, a total of 2½ million truck kilometres – equivalent to a savings of over 500 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
Own wharf
To help facilitate this shift, CBC, LCB, MCA Brabant, the Municipality of Steenbergen and Province of Noord-Brabant have signed a letter of intent to build a wharf at the Cosun Beet Company factory in Dinteloord. This will enable us to further expand the modal shift and transport even more beets by boat to our factory.
