Protein

Providing a healthy and sustainable diet for the growing world population is a huge social challenge. Our diets and consumption patterns are being critically appraised from several angles. The social challenge we are facing is huge but it is also a source of opportunities to research and innovate new technologies, products and processes, and to take transformative steps to transition to a circular green economy.

In December 2018, Cosun Beet Company acquired the innovative start-up Green Protein B.V. Based in Wageningen, the Netherlands, this company has developed a process to extract the protein RuBisCo from green leaves. This high quality protein can be used as a food ingredient. Its production method not only complements the worldwide transition to vegetable proteins, but also extracts more sustainable value from the sugar beet biomass.

Start-ups and their innovative strength are important to Cosun Beet Company and its parent cooperative, Cosun. They are a source of state of the art knowledge, provide access to international developments and a large international network of innovative entrepreneurs.
