Cosun Beet Company starts refining thick juice
Today, the annual processing of thick juice into sugar has started in Dinteloord. Earlier, the factories in Vierverlaten and Anklam also started with refining thick juice. Thick juice is an intermediate product that arises in the beet campaign when sugar beets are processed into sugar. The thick juice is stored in tanks at the factory. At the end of the beet campaign, the sugar silos and the thick juice tanks are completely filled. We now have sufficient storage space in the sugar silos again and the processing of thick juice into sugar has therfore started.
In contrast to the regular beet campaign, only a limited part of the sugar factory is in operation when thick juice is processed into granulated sugar. The processing of thick juice takes place in a round-the-clock shift and is expected to be completed after approximately 6 weeks, at the end of June / beginning of July.
The sugar factories produced about 480,000 tonnes of thick juice during the sugar beet campaign and have been storing it in three tanks in Dinteloord and three tanks in Vierverlaten. By first making this intermediate product, the factories are able to process significantly more sugar beet. It then takes about 15 days to process the thick juice in a single storage tank into sugar. The factories in Dinteloord and Vierverlaten will therefore operate for between 40 and 45 days until the end of June / early July. In total, the factories will produce about 300,000 tonnes of sugar. To this end, only the rear part of the factory is in continuous operation.
